The State of Michigan requires all individuals regularly providing instructional, food, custodial, transportation, counseling, or administrative services in a public or private school, or instructional or auxiliary services to special education students to be electronically printed under the SE – MI SCHOOL EMPLOYMENT (MCL 380.1230a) reason code. If you have previous prints that are not coded as SE, you will need to submit a new background check.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I complete my background check?

  • You can go to any Live Scan vendor to complete your digital fingerprints. If you are connected to another district, you can sign a release form for our district to request fingerprints from your previous district. If you do not know the TCN, please ensure to write the full district name. Previous prints must be coded with SE or School Employment. If any other code besides SE is listed, you will need a new background check.

What do I bring to the Live Scan appointment?

  • You’ll need your driver’s license and your Live Scan form. Your results are sent directly to the school district. Once these are received, you will be notified by HR next steps.

What is your fax number?

  • If you need to securely send documents, you can fax them to our HR Department at 248-328-3145.

How do I choose my substitute jobs?

  • Holly Area Schools utilizes Frontline to post these jobs. HR will email you your login information and you must register an account to both see and select a job.

Can I only work a half day?

  • Yes! There are full day substitute teacher jobs as well as half day substitute teacher jobs. For substitute paraprofessionals, please reach out to the building. For noon supervisor substitute jobs, please reach out to the building.

What happens if there’s a school closure?

  • By registering with Frontline, you will be notified if there is a school closure (e.g. inclement weather).

I prefer to work with a certain grade level or at a certain school. Is this an option?

  • Yes! You only choose the jobs you want to work both for grade level and location.

Does the district provide any incentives for substitute teachers?

  • Absolutely! If a substitute teacher works 12 or more days a month for an eligible vacancy, they will receive a $50 gas card. When you complete your 20th day in our district (this does not have to be consecutive vacancies), your daily rate will increase.

My willSub application is stuck on Section 1! How do I finish my application?

  • willSub is a two part application. You must complete all sections, including the background check and training modules for the second part of the application to open.

How do I apply for my Michigan Substitute Teacher permit?

  • When you complete your willSub application, they will complete this for you. This permit then becomes visible to the district which confirms your eligible status to substitute as a teacher. If you are applying to be a substitute paraprofessional, there is not a required permit.

If I still have questions, who do I contact?
