Congratulations to our entire Broncho community on a great first week of school!

August 29, 2024

Dear Families of Holly Area Schools,

It is truly exciting seeing the faces of our Broncho students, staff and families again. Congratulations to our entire Broncho community on a great first week of school and a great month of August at Holly Area Schools.

Thank you to all our students and parents who attended the informative Broncho Parent Camp, the 8th Annual Health & Enrollment Fair, Childhood 2.0 Parent Night, and our Ribbon Cutting events for the updated Holly Stadium and new Construction Trades Center.

I want to take a moment to share some important reminders and updates that will help ensure a successful and safe year for all of our students:

1. Positive Student Attendance:

Regular attendance is crucial to your child’s success in school. Every day counts, and we encourage you to help your child maintain consistent attendance. Regular attendance supports academic achievement and fosters a sense of responsibility and commitment that will serve our students a lifetime. If your child is struggling with attendance, please reach out to your school’s administration so we can work together to support them.

2. Talking to Students About the Dangers of Vaping, THC, Smartphones, and Social Media:

We have shared a great deal of information about the rising use of vaping products and THC among young people. These substances pose significant health risks, and we strongly urge you to talk with your child about the dangers of using them.

We have also shared a great deal of research and data around the negative impact of social media and smartphones on student mental health. It is critical that we protect our youth from cyberbullying and online predators, and minimize classroom distractions. We encourage you to talk with your child to help address youth depression, self-harm, and other mental health issues on the rise. Our commitment to student safety includes providing families with resources and strategies to address these issues, including sessions at our August Parent Camp, information available on our website, and ongoing parent workshops. Together, we can help our students make informed, healthy choices.

3. Reminders About Behavior and Safety:

Creating a safe and respectful learning environment is a top priority for Holly Area Schools. It’s important for students to understand the seriousness of engaging in threatening behavior or making inappropriate comments. Such actions are against our code of conduct and may also have severe disciplinary and legal consequences. We ask that you discuss with your child the importance of respectful behavior both in and out of school. We’ve updated our student handbooks to reflect our continued commitment to safety, and we encourage you to review these updates with your child.  We are here to support them in making positive choices, and we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these important messages at home.

4. Our Commitment to Partnership and Communication:

Our schools are places where students can shape their learning journey through personalized experiences that equip them with the real-life skills and resilience they need to succeed. We believe strong partnerships between schools and families are key to that success. We are committed to providing you with valuable information, resources, and strategies to support your child’s physical and mental health. The feedback from our families has been overwhelmingly positive, and we will continue to prioritize clear and open communication throughout the year.

We look forward to working together to make this school year a safe, healthy, and successful one for all of our Broncho students. Thank you for your continued support and for being our partners in education.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Roper Superintendent of Schools
 Holly Area School District
