Holly Area Schools parent outreach program to promote student wellness, success

Partnership to connect Broncho families with mental health services, encourage healthy habits, more

HOLLY, Mich. — A new Holly Area Schools parent outreach program will help promote student wellness and success through a series of initiatives to support all Broncho students, parents and guardians. The new district-parent partnership will connect Broncho families with mental health services, educate families about responsible student use of smartphones and social media, and more.

The parent outreach program is new for the 2024-2025 school year and is another example of the district’s continued commitment to growing and strengthening partnerships with Broncho families.

“At Holly Area Schools, we are committed to strengthening our partnerships with families and helping ensure our students have access to resources that help serve their individual social and emotional needs,” said Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent. “We look forward to getting this program off the ground and working directly with our parents to help ensure the success of our Bronchos.”

Cheryl Price, the district’s counseling specialist, and Sydney Sinclair, the district’s family school liaison, will lead the districtwide effort. Price and Sinclair will also participate in professional development by earning Family Engagement Certification through the School Superintendents Association and Leader In Me, a global community of educators.

One of the first initiatives of the program will be a partnership with Care Solace, a mental health care coordination service for K-12 school districts. Through the partnership, Care Solace will help coordinate wraparound support services for students, staff and family members. The agreement with Care Solace was finalized in July and the program will kick off Oct. 1.

“It’s important to break down walls that prevent our students and families from accessing mental health care, and this program will help bolster our continued efforts to promote student mental health in our district,” Price said. “This program enables the district, in partnership with our parents, to support the well-being of all Bronchos.”

“Raising awareness about mental health and working with students and families to get help when they need it is part of our commitment to providing our Bronchos with a world-class education that prepares them for bright futures and careers,” Sinclair said. “We look forward to connecting with our parents in the weeks and months ahead.”

The parent outreach program will also build on the district’s continued commitment to inform parents about critical issues facing students, including the dangers of excessive smartphone and social media use. As part of this initiative, the district hosted Childhood 2.0 Parent Night on Aug. 27. The event featured Katey McPherson, a youth mental health advocate.

“It has never been more important for our schools to partner with parents to help ensure all students have the tools they need to excel in the classroom and beyond,” McPherson said. “I encourage all Holly Area Schools families to get involved in this important program to help their children achieve and succeed.”
